Studies show that overall intelligence is closely linked to the status of your working memory. Don’t frown if you think you are to old to better your memory, the reason being is you can make your memory better at virtually any age.
Working Memory - Has been also stated as short term memory
Working memory is used for holding on to information that you don’t need to know forever. An example would be doing a quick math problem in your head. You remember the numbers on a math problem, you find the answer, you write it down, then you go on to the next problem. When you go on to the next problem your brain will automatically discard the information, unless you have some reason to try and remember it.
How It Works -
Both halves of your brain send signals to the area of the brain that sorts out information. From there the information gets sorted into 2 separate folders.
- The first folders name is ‘long term memory’. If it is sorted into this folder it will stay in your memory until a later date.
- The second folders name is ‘fading memories’. These memories will slowly fade away.
